SCOTLAND

SCOTLAND: AMONG FOGS AND MISTS

Scotland has always exerted a strong attraction to all those who love wildlife and animals. Certainly, these are characteristic of this country that has been able to safeguard its environments and their inhabitants with safeguarding and recovery policies after a long period of time when they had experienced a real extermination, mainly because of hunting trips.
For many years now, parks have been established and protected areas of prestige that are now controlled by state and private bodies. This is the case, for example, of the recovery of the Ospreys in the Loch Garten area by the Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSBP).
This area, in the center of Scotland, near the beautiful town of Aviemore, is today one of the best to observe, and photograph, this splendid raptor. If you are particularly lucky you can meet it while fishing in one of the many waterways or lakes nearby.
The occasions to capture wild animals accompany us a bit all over Scotland and it's not just about birds but also a large number of mammals.

I've been to Scotland several times, in summer and winter, with ice and summer flowering and I must say that every season here has its own particular charm. Among the photographic mammals, the overwhelming noble deer is the master. In September, one can hear his mighty spirit, during the season of loves. But in addition to the deer, frequent encounter along the coast, with seals, otters, rats, foxes, and many other mammals. What will, however, give us more satisfaction, and fill our memory cards, will certainly be the sea birds, which are present in large numbers and sometimes in concentrations of several tens of thousands of individuals. It is, for example, the case of 200,000 and more gannets of Bass Rock, or the puffins in the Hebrides icelands, or the thousands of guillemots in the far Orkney Islands. And the species present are really so many.

As for landscapes, then, it is difficult to find a place in Europe that gives us so many opportunities. Everywhere lakes, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, islands, cliffs, dream beaches. Landscapers in short will not struggle to really find bread for their teeth. Do not overlook the particular atmospheres when everything is wrapped in fog or mist. In particular, the islands of Mull and Sky, which belonged the internal hybrids, would merely deserve a vacation and my advice is to include at least one for a few days on each trip. Also unforgettable are the landscapes of the inner and western Highlands that perhaps represent the true Mystique of Scotland. Not to mention the beautiful cities and the many castles.

In short, a trip to this country will certainly give us great satisfaction (and photographs).
